The TOOLKIT FOR SONGWRITING course provides a comprehensive information package on writing songs.
The course covers topics such as the balance, structure, harmony, melody, rhythm, timbre, lyrics, hooks and co-writing of a song, and gives advice on what to do if a song just doesn’t work.
The instructor is Laura Sippola, who is a pianist-singer-songwriter and teacher of songwriting. She holds a doctorate in music.
The course includes a comprehensive set of pre-recorded video lessons as well as song writing exercises.
The videos will be made available for the selected students at the first meeting!
COURSE DELIVERY
The course is free of charge in the pilot phase and is primarily aimed at people living in Southern Ostrobothnia. As this course is part of a project funded by the European Social Fund (ESF), all participants are required to fill in monitoring information and feedback forms related to ESF projects.
The course consists of pre-recorded video materials, three online meetings, and exercises.
Please refer to the Schedule box for the dates of the joint online sessions and their contents.
Following successful applications, ten people will be selected for the course.
The selected students will receive further information by email.
PRELIMINARY ASSIGNMENT
In the last course video, the trainer will give instructions for the assignment that will be discussed during the first joint session.

INSTRUCTOR LAURA SIPPOLA
Laura Sippola is a pianist-singer-songwriter and a music educator. She has a long career as an independent artist with a unique voice of her own, and holds a doctorate in music. Sippola has released seven self-titled solo albums, her latest releases under the pseudonym A U R A L. Sippola teaches songwriting at the Open Campus of the University of the Arts in Helsinki and at the Critical Academy and holds workshops on songwriting.
